Weekend Wisdom 22nd May 2022

It’s been a while some since I stopped by with a Weekend Wisdom post – Covid, post-covid fatigue, and family members in road traffic accidents knocked me off kilter for a while, I’m getting better at being protective of my own energy when I’m running on limited resources.

But… I’m back! Because each weekend, over on my Instagram, I lean into what the collective needs for the week, and pull an oracle card to represent that.

This week the card

Trickster

from Denise Linn’s Native Spirit Oracle found me.

The accompanying booklet shares: Your native spirit wants you to know – In indigenous traditions, there is a concept of the trickster.  In Native American traditions, the trickster is often depicted as a wily coyote, but sometimes the trickster is a human called Heyoka.

There is a lighthearted, fun aspect of the trickster, but there’s also the caution to tread carefully because things are not always as they seem.

Be discerning.  What appears to be a good opportunity may, in fact, not be.

The wonderful aspect of this card choosing you is that it offers the opportunity to step out if old, outmoded ways of perceiving yourself.  The Trickster allows you to see yourself in an entirely new way and asks you to step out of old routines and habits that might be keeping you stagnant.

I love the way this card calls us to examine the ways we are tricking ourselves, rather than always looking to outside influences.

Here’s what it says to me…

Having just returned from training a group of amazing medicine women as Certified Firewalk Instructors, I witnessed great transformation, both inside them, and inside myself.

Tricking ourselves is one of the easiest things our brains can do to protect us from perceived failure, pain, and struggle.. and yet inside ourselves is often the last place we look to find The Trickster.  Yet when we actively seek the Trickster inside we open ourselves up to the transformation that can form dreams into realities. as well as open our eyes to the external Trickster too.

How can you respond?

Something like the events I run can be a great space to look inwards for your own Trickster, but there are also practices you can do at home that will get you started – why not think of an area of life where you tell yourself ‘that’s just the way I am’ and see if you can spot the Trickster in the midst.

  1. Set some time aside – maybe an hour, maybe a whole afternoon.  Block out the amount of time that feels right to you and that your schedule will allow.
  2. Gather what will help you – have a notebook and pen handy to make some notes as you go through if it’s helpful to you
  3. Remove distractions – pop your phone and any other distractions out of reach. Turn the wifi and data off on your phone so it doesn’t give a ping, and leave pets, children, and partners outside the door.
  4. Question your Trickster – why do I believe that about myself? Where did this belief initially come from?
  5. Forgive yourself – observe your answers with compassion.  find the answers within yourself with clarity, but not with judgement.
  6. Write down your new commitment – make a commitment to yourself to be on the lookout for the Trickster in that situation if (and when) it occurs again – tell the Trickster you know they’re there now and will be keeping an eye out for them.

Weekend Wisdom ~ February 6 2022

Each weekend, over on my Instagram, I lean into what the collective needs for the week, and pull an oracle card to represent that.

This week the card

forgiveness

from Michelle A Motuzas’s Shamanic Healing Oracle Cards found me.

The accompanying booklet shares: Forgive yourself for trusting others and getting hurt, for not knowing, for not seeing, for not believing.

Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves, whether that’s forgiveness of others or ourselves, and this card had chosen a powerful time for us to utelise that gift.

Here’s what it says to me…

I once heard forgiveness likened to going fishing, and the description has stuck with me ever since… Even though I’ve never actually been fishing!  When we hold a grudge against someone, or struggle to offer deep forgiveness without expectation, that person has us hooked, just like a fish hook sits in the side of a fishes mouth.  Soon after the fisherman will forget all about the missing hook and the fish it sits in, but the fish is left with the constant reminder.

If left, the hook will fester and cause a constant throbbing and rottenness of infection throughout the whole body of the fish. When we go through a process of forgiveness, even though it might seem painful at the time, the festering hook is removed, and the experience of it throughout the body is healed. In this way, forgiveness is not about letting somebody else (the fisherman, or woman) off the hook, it’s actual about letting ourselves off the hook, and creating deep healing for our whole.

How can you respond?

We are entering into a magical time when no planets are in retrograde – it’s an important time that we can leverage for our own manifestation and creating of the life we want.  There is no better time than now to remove the blocks and the festering fish hooks from our lives

  1. Set some time aside – maybe 10 minutes, maybe an hour.  Block out the amount of time that feels right to you and that your schedule will allow.
  2. Gather your favourite cleansing tools – for me this is sage and feathers, but Agua De Florida, or sound chimes will work just as well.
  3. Let your mind focus on what could be causing a festering throughout your being– enquire kindly of yourself, without any judgement or resentment for what comes up.
  4. Say out loud – I create forgiveness for myself. I choose to be off the hook from carrying this burden. I am free from the pain this has created. I forgive with grace and ease.
  5. Use your cleansing tools – in the way that feels right for you.
  6. Repeat 3-5 – Go through the process as often as you need, each time feeling for a relief from what has been festering within.

This week the card

Vision Quest

from Denise Linn’s Native Spirit Oracle found me.

The accompanying booklet shares: Your native spirit wants you to know – when this card chooses you, it’s telling you to take time away from ordinary life. Take time to explore the depths of your soul. The answers to your questions are all around.

I was surprised/not surprised at all when this card came to me!

Here’s what it says to me…

I am just in the process of booking a trip to California in September (more of that soon) which includes a Vision Quest in the mountains, so on a personal level, this card gave me a chuckle as well as some confirmation.

A theme that has been coming to me again and again recently is that what we all seek is found inside ourselves.  We may gain insights and clues from nature, readings, pendulums etc, but actually, if we take time to listen in, all we need is already there.

The Vision Quest card seems to really speak into that – when was the last time you sat quietly and expected wisdom and clarity to come to you?

I know for myself, if I’m honest,  my expectation of what I’m seeking revealing itself to me during a meditation time (as opposed to a time when I’m working intuitively) is actually quite low.

I can often expect finding the answers to take work, and patience, and more work… but this card seems to be whipering to us all that if we apply the patience, what we’re seeking is ready to reveal itself to us.

How can you respond?

You don’t need to go to California for a month to work with Native Shaman to have your own personal Vision Quest – here’s what you can do at home this week

  1. Set some time aside – maybe an hour, maybe a whole afternoon.  Block out the amount of time that feels right to you and that your schedule will allow.
  2. Gather what will help you – you don’t technically *need* anything, but having a few items at hand that are symbolic or meaningful to you will definitely help get you in the right frame of mind to begin. Candles, pictures of your deity, items from nature, think about what is special to you.
  3. Soften your senses – burn some incense, wear soft clothing, have the lights dimmed.  Think of ways that you can leave your senses ready to being heightened and open to other things.
  4. Remove distractions – pop your phone and any other distractions out of reach. Turn the wifi and data off on your phone so it doesn’t give a ping, and leave pets, children, and partners outside the door.
  5. Have a notebook and pen handy – write down anything that comes to you.  Try not to overthink things just take what come to you as an important sign you need to pay attention to.
  6. Be ready to be surprised/not surprised by what comes to you.
